Guided Imagery and Music

Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) is a music based way to explore and resolve common life issues.  GIM  can be used as an alternative to traditional verbal psychotherapy, or in combination with traditional individual, group or couples/family counseling and psychotherapy.  GIM is designed to help individuals integrate on a cognitive, emotional, physical and behavioral level.  In addition, individuals often awaken to spiritual and/or transcendent experiences during GIM sessions.

GIM is consistent in theory and practice with my work as both an Integrative Psychotherapist and Creative Arts/Music Therapist.   As a Fellow of the Association of Music and Imagery, I have been extensively trained in this technique, and  am able to modify and combine this modality in a variety of ways to suit individual needs and offer a creative, unique way to  approach problem solving and self exploration.  In addition to traditional GIM,  I also offer Music and Imagery for Wellness, and Music and Imagery for Psychotherapy.  The difference between the three lies in the manner in which the music is used during your session, and your personal therapy goals.

GIM and/or Music and Imagery sessions are typically offered in an extended session format which can be as short as one hour, or as long as two hours.  Sessions typically involve a guided relaxation, followed by deep listening to music during which we process together the images, feelings, sensations, thoughts, memories and other ideas which are evoked by the music.  This is often followed by the creation of a drawn image, which represents your journey or experience in the music.   The music used for GIM and Music and Imagery sessions is chosen from all genres of music such as classical, jazz, world music and the many forms of popular music.
GIM and Music and Imagery are excellent tools for problem solving, self exploration, growth and wellness, because
your music and imagery experiences are reflections of you; how you see your world, and your relationship to yourself and to others.  Through GIM and Music and Imagery, people often have experiences which inspire, challenge and nurture their sense of who they are and who they can become.  Creativity is often awakened, and with that, a new sense of empowered
energy to face life issues and make positive changes.
